In partnership with the Local Government Units Agricultural Engineers, the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA spearheaded the facilitation of a five-day Training on Planning and Designing of Diversion Dams and Irrigation Canals at Ala Amid Bed Breakfast, San Pedro, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, on May 20–24, 2024.
A total of 23 agricultural extension workers from the provinces of Romblon, Palawan, and Oriental Mindoro, five government representatives, and two members of the people's organization received a series of comprehensive training workshops. The training started with a refresher on the fundamentals of irrigation then they engaged in various activities that can asses their knowledge on using the given data to prepare an illustrative and detailed program of works of a dimension dam using excel spreadsheet. The participants were also asked to present their outputs, after which the resource persons provided their feedback..
As an output, 14 re-entry plans were developed: 13 from municipalities and one from a people's organization. These plans will be used to address the needs of their localities..
“Sa mga resource persons, marami kaming natutunan, lalo na sa pag-estimate ng mga gagamitin sa mga proyekto, dahil ito lang ang pagkakataon ko na maranasan ang ganito sa OJT. May mga bago rin sa akin, tulad ng AutoCAD, kaya medyo natagalan ako sa pagdodrawing. Overall, sobra kong naenjoy ang training na ito dahil nakita ko muli ang mga mukha na karaniwang nakikita ko sa mga trainings," shared Ms. Azel I. Abrina, OPAG Palawan.he participants were grateful for the the training and hope that future trainings related to this will be also be conducted to other municipalities or provinces in the region.
