DFP Farm Learn Phase I Palawan 2024

To bridge the gap between traditional farming practices and modern digital technology among farmers, the Agricultural Training Institute in MIMAROPA conducted a two-day training on the Digital Farmers Program (DFP) Farm Learn Phase I at Ala Amid Bed and Breakfast in Brgy. San Manuel, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, from August 5 to 6, 2024.

The DFP Phase I intended to create future-ready rice farmers by introducing Smart Agricultural Technologies (SATs). Likewise, this training aimed  to show farmers the importance and benefits of SATs and how it could  easily and quickly address various challenges in rice farming throughout the entire process.

The training focused on DFP 101 and DFP 102, helping participants enhance their understanding of basic agricultural applications such as Payong PAGASA, GPS Fields Area Measure, Plant Doctor, and SPIDTECH. Participants were also introduced to smartphone components and functions as well as various mobile applications, social media, and e-learning platforms relevant to their farming needs.

A key highlight of the training, which participants particularly appreciated, was the emphasis on e-commerce and digital marketing strategies, where they learned how to market their agricultural products effectively through various e-commerce platforms. Practical activities included creating posters using Canva and developing social media marketing plans, which equipped them with the knowledge to improve their digital marketing strategies.

One of the participants, Ms. Nancy O. Firmalo, member of Aritest Agro Farm Tourism Enterprise in Brgy.

As part of the agreement, the 33 graduates will share the knowledge gained on digital agriculture with other farmers and youth to contribute to the advancement of agriculture in their communities.
