To equip participants with expertise in soybean production and post-harvest management, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA hosted the province-wide Training on Soybean Production at ATI-RTC MIMAROPA, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on October 8-10, 2024.
The three-day training, which included various lectures, hands-on activities, and workshops designed to enrich their knowledge and skills on the topic. The participants also engaged in a cost and return analysis activity, where they were provided with a sample scenario based on their actual farm inputs and the same farm gate price, which they presented afterward.
As part of the training, the participants visited Willandaise Agri-Farm School Corporation, where the actual processing of tofu was demonstrated. The processed products were then served to them for tasting.
The participants expressed their gratitude for the successful conduct of the training and for the knowledge they gained. Ms. Maria Epma P. Aguilon of Geraldine's Agricultural Farm stated how the potential of soybean production as a valuable commodity can benefit not just the farmers but also the economy and the Filipino communities.
“I would like to share my insight po regarding sa potential market. Diba po ang soybean, malaki ang market niya sa big corporations, such as San Miguel and SIDC. Dahil may mga ganitong trainings po tayo, I guess mas mapapataas po yung potential market kasi magiging in demand na po siya hindi lang yung big companies ang makikinabang, [kundi maging] the economy of the Philippines, the Filipino communities, as well as the farmers, kasi magiging in demand na po siya sa market,”she said.
A total of 30 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and Farmer Leaders attended the training.
