20 AEWs, ATI Staff Complete Resource Person Development Training Course

PILI, Camarines Sur - The Department of Agriculture -Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center V (DA ATI-Bicol) is the knowledge bank, catalyst, enabler, and lead agency in professionalizing the Philippine Agricultural Extension System. The institute recognizes the Local Government Units (LGUs) as one of the most important resources in the agriculture sector, as they are one of the pillars of extension that play a role in the implementation of various programs, projects, and activities directly to the farmers, fisherfolk, agri- processors and other actors in the agricultural value- chain. Thus, appropriate training was continuously provided to support and upgrade the Agricultural Extension Workers' (AEWs) capacity.

Thus, the DA-ATI conducted five (5) days of training on Resource Person Development Training Course last June 27–July 1, 2022, at Calaguas Hall, ATI–RTC V, San Agustin, Pili Camarines Sur. This training generally aimed to improve the knowledge, skills, and attitude of the participants on the proper and effective delivery of extension services to the participants.

There were twenty (20) participants, sixteen (16) AEWs from different provinces, and four (4) ATI Bicol staff. The ATI personnel served as resource persons (RPs) in training and discussed the following topics:
Module I. Looking Deeper into One Self
Lesson 1. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Importance of Self Esteem
Lesson 1. Johari Window
Lesson 2. The Left and Right brain
Lesson 3. Multiple Intelligence

Module II. The World of an AEW and Trainer
Lesson 1. Extension History, Definition, Concepts, and Principles
Lesson 2. Extension Methodologies, Approaches, Innovations
Lesson 3. Adult Learning Principles
Lesson 4. Enhancing Facilitation Skills
Lesson 5. Appreciating Diversity
Lesson 6. Responsible Adult Communication
Lesson 7. Situational Leadership

Module III. (The TRAINER in ME)
Lesson 1. Making a Powerful Presentation
Lesson 2. Visuals and Visual Aids Development and Production

MODULE IV: Integrated Learning Experience (ILE)

Special Topics:
Gender and Development Concepts (Brain wiring)
Climate Change

The participants showed outstanding performances in the micro-teaching, discussing their chosen topic while applying the concepts, principles, and techniques they learned from the training. In addition, the RPs served as the panelists of the activity and provided the participants with constructive criticisms to further improve their capacities as trainers.

Selected participants from each province expressed their learnings and insights in training wherein they commonly expressed their gratitude, KSA acquired, and their plans to do after the training.

The participants received training certificates with (18) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points during graduation. In addition, the training was successfully ended with an excellent average rating for Resource Persons and an excellent rating for their Overall Training Experience.
