PILI, Camarines Sur- To advance sustainable farming practices and enhance productivity, the Department of Agriculture- Agricultural Training Institute Bicol conducted a five-day Training of Trainers on Corn and Cassava Farm Mechanization from February 24-28, 2025. Held at ATI Bicol Training Hall at Brgy. San Agustin, Pili, Camarines  Sur, the program trained 21 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Albay, equipping them with skills in operating and maintaining farm machinery. The initiative supports the goals of the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997.

The program commenced with an engaging opening session led by Center Director Elsa A. Parot. Participants introduced themselves while reflecting on the importance of farm mechanization. Resource speakers presented key topics on corn and cassava production, farm mechanization, and related technologies. Engr. Amabel Bombase provided an overview of the DA Corn Program and the status of the industry, followed by technical sessions on mechanized land preparation, planting, harvesting, drying, and milling technologies for both crops.

Hands-on activities highlighted the fourth day, where participants toured DA-RFO 5’s facilities to learn about farm machinery for corn and cassava production. The practical session allowed participants to operate tractors and other implements, gaining firsthand experience with modern technologies. Discussions also included best practices, innovations, and the importance of proper machinery maintenance to ensure longevity and efficiency.

The final day featured lectures on the care and maintenance of farm machinery, complemented by evaluations and re-entry planning. Participants shared their insights, emphasizing the practical value of hands-on training and how they plan to apply these skills in their respective communities. ATI Bicol Information Services Section Chief Primalou B. Imperial delivered inspirational messages where she reiterated the importance of mechanization in achieving food security and sustainable development.

The training concluded with a graduation ceremony, where certificates were awarded to the 21 graduates. Participants expressed gratitude for the comprehensive program, citing its contribution to enhancing their capacity to support farmers and promote mechanized farming.
