PILI, Camarines Sur — Twenty-five (25) Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program beneficiaries completed the 3-day Training on “Trash to Cash: Animal Waste Management and Utilization” Batch 5 on November 11-13, 2024 at Isarog Hall, ATI-RTC 5, San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur.

The identified participants were beneficiaries of various livestock and poultry projects of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 5 (DA-RFO 5),

The training aimed to: explain the effects of improper handling of animal waste in the environment; identify the different animal waste management and utilization methods; explain the design principles of a biogas digester for animal wastes; explain the importance of Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS) in animal waste management; describe the principles and procedures for Vermicomposting, Mortality Composting, and Bio-Organic Fertilizers; develop an animal waste management plan for a swine-based project/s and; prepare and submit a re-entry plan to implement animal waste management and utilization technologies.

The beneficiaries will be managing commercial scale swine multiplier farms and will help in the repopulation efforts of the local swine industry affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).
