PILI, Camarines Sur- The first-ever training on drafting business proposals specifically for Organic Agriculture (OA) scholars and farm partners in the Bicol Region concluded successfully, drawing 28 participants from six provinces. The three-day event was designed to enhance the business acumen of 25 OA scholars and three farm partners, equipping them with the skills needed to turn agricultural initiatives into profitable ventures. The training was held at Orosa Hall, ATI Bicol Compound, Pili Camarines Sur from July 29 to 31, 2024.
The training commenced with an opening message from ISS Chief Ms. Primalou Imperial, delivered on behalf of OIC Assistant Center Director Emmanuel Orogo. Information Officer II, Mr. Michael Villezar, provided an overview of the training and house rules. The day's sessions included an in-depth discussion on financial literacy for farmers and fisherfolk by Mr. Andrew Arellano, an instructor at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA). Later, CBSUA Associate Professor III, Mr. Rhener Bucad, emphasized the importance of treating farming as a business, covering business ethics and the qualities of a successful agripreneur.
On the second day, participants were guided through the process of developing a farm vision and setting goals by CBSUA Associate Professor V, Ms. Mae Lustre. CBSUA Instructor Ms. Lea Pacao then introduced the business canvas model, a strategic tool for planning and visualizing business ideas. The afternoon was dedicated to farm record-keeping and cost-return analysis, led by CBSUA Associate Professor V, Ms. Maria Victoria Balderas, followed by practical workshops.
The final day focused on marketing strategies and crafting detailed business plans, with discussions led by Ms. Lustre and Ms. Pacao. Participants were then divided into four groups to present their business proposals, showcasing their newfound skills. During the closing program, Project Officer Isagani Valenzuela Jr. presented a course synthesis, thanked the participants for their positive feedback, and acknowledged the insights shared by three participants.
Center Director Elsa Parot concluded the event by confirming the participants as graduates and encouraging them to ensure the profitability and bankability of their farms. She urged the scholars to maintain their passion and commitment to organic agriculture.
