SORSOGON CITY, Sorsogon- The Agricultural Training Institute—Regional Training Center V (ATI Bicol) organized a Technical Briefing on Urban and Peri-Urban Gardening on April 3, 2025, at The People’s Mansion, Capitol Compound, Sorsogon City. The activity aimed to promote food security and livelihood opportunities through gardening in urban and nearby areas. Ten agricultural extension workers (AEWs) and 20 farmer leaders (FLs) participated.
Ms. Kristine F. Prieto, NUPAP Technical Staff, welcomed and acknowledged the participants, guests, and team members. Mr. Algeron J. Deterala, NUPAP Coordinator for Sorsogon Province, gave the opening remarks while Mr. Danjhan B. Layco, Admin Aide VI and Alternate NUPAP Focal Person, presented the activity overview.
Ms. Justine Rose C. Tubig, Development Management Officer II of ATI Bicol, led the technical session. She discussed the legal framework of the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), shared best gardening practices, suitable crops, economic benefits, and available technologies for urban areas. She also introduced the upcoming "Search for the Best Gardening" contest, which excited the participants.
Participants rated the activity highly and showed eagerness to apply urban gardening techniques in their spaces and communities. Many shared that the briefing offered valuable, practical ideas to improve food sources and support livelihoods.
