The Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute, held the 10-day SAVERS (SAfe VEgetable from Rich Soil) Training of Trainers - Batch 1 in ATI-CAR, La Trinidad, Benguet last September 11-20, 2023.

The 10-day TOT was attended by 25 participants from various provinces in Luzon, including Pampanga, Pangasinan, Nueva Viscaya, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, and Camarines Norte.

The training was effective in preparing Farmer Leaders and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEW) for the SAVERS Technology, particularly the wood vinegar known as "Mokusako." This technology has the potential to help farmers increase farm productivity while using fewer synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Participants in the training had the opportunity to visit existing mokusako and vermicomposting facilities, as well as other farmers in Benguet who are using Japan Technologies in their farming.

The participants were able to gain knowledge during the 5-day lecture and apply what they learned during the 4-day hands-on activities in various farm sites. The participants are now ready to plant their learning in their own respective provinces through farmer seminars and meetings, and most importantly the adoption of technology to their farms. A technology that could be very beneficial in increasing their farm output and income.
