Coconut charcoal briquetting provides promising opportunities for coconut farmers to diversify their income while adding value to coconut waste. By transforming coconut shells and husks into briquettes, farmers can tap into a growing market for eco-friendly fuel alternatives and transform their livelihoods.
With the demand and marketability of briquettes in the region, the ATI-RTC 1 conducted seven (7) batches of training on coconut charcoal briquetting for coconut farmer organizations (CFOs) in areas identified by the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) with sufficient production particularly Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte; Bagulin, La Union; and, Bolinao and San Fabian, Pangasinan.

A total of 210 farmers from seven (7) associations were trained and provided with briquetting machines to meet the demand of a prospective buyer who is affiliated with one of the super markets in Luzon. The trainings were conducted with the help of the ATI-RTC 1’s accredited private extension service providers (PESPs) and certified learning sites for agriculture (LSAs) who will facilitate consolidation of the produce and link them to more markets.
