In celebration of the National Bamboo Month in September, ATI Ilocos Region, in partnership with Lakay Nga Lomboy Integrated Farm (LnLIF) of Bani, Pangasinan- a newly certified Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA), conducted Training Course on Bamboo Production for Farmer Leaders on September 27-29, 2023.
A total of 32 farmer leaders of Bani completed the training, equipping them with knowledge and skills in bamboo propagation and management, and appreciation in bamboo’s potential in poverty alleviation, disaster risk reduction, and long-term environmental protection. The training was conducted through lectures, demonstrations and return-demonstrations in planting, pruning, bamboo farm cleaning, and engineered bamboo making.
The LnLIF management served as resource persons to the training, and the farm with 17 thriving bamboo species as practicum area. These resources provide optimum learning experiences to participants and a motivation of the community to pursue and boost the bamboo industry.
The LnLIF was inaugurated on the second day of training through a ribbon cutting and awarding of certificates spearheaded by the ATI Center Director, Dr. Rogelio Evangelista, LnLIF Management- Ms. Karen O. Principe, Mr. and Mrs. Carlito Ostil; and the Municipal Agriculture Office of Bani.
A stronger partnership was established by the LnLIF, LGU-Bani, and the farmer leaders with the aspiration of making Bani as the bamboo-center in the Region in the future.
