STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan - Aim at producing extension partners who are highly able to communicate agricultural information and technologies, the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 1 (DA-ATI-RTC 1) held a Training Course on Written and Oral Communication on April 3-5, 2024.
Twenty-five (25) agricultural extension workers (AEWs), farmer cooperators of Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSAs), and 4H club members completed the course enabling them to acquire knowledge and skills on effective writing, public speaking, and social media content development and management.
The three-day training employed lectures, discussions, and a series of workshops that allowed the participants to effectively deliver a speech; produce and present business letters news articles, and social media visual materials.
The subject matter specialists of the training who facilitated discussions and workshops about writing were Dr. Gerry D. Abad and Mr. Mark Ian C. Tagami from the Mariano Marcos State University. Meanwhile, Dr. Ernest C. Collo, Jr. from the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University enhanced the public speaking skills of the participants through different individual and group activities. Ms. Galilee L. Padua of the DA-ATI-RTC 1 shared practical tips and strategies in managing corporate social media networks.
โThis training made me realize that communicating with other people is something that should not be taken lightly. It takes time to master effective delivery of messages and this training is a perfect jumpstart to apply all the learnings and to share with our colleagues in the extension services.โ, expressed by Ms. Clarence N. Marticio from LGU-San Nicolas, Pangasinan during the closing of the training.
The continuing need for effective transfer of information and technology to the farming and fishing communities is the strong driving reason of the DA-ATI-RTC 1 in realizing this training. Alongside with the technical expertise of the AEWs, Farmer Leaders, and Young Farmers, their social competencies should be also developed or enhanced.
