To improve the livelihoods of Cordilleran farmers, Agricultural Training Institute – Cordillera Administrative Region (ATI-CAR), conducted an Integrating Rice, Duck, and Vegetable Farming Training at Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet last June 18-20, 2024.

The said training program aimed to equip farmers with knowledge and skills, including the application of effective insect pest management, the utilization of rice mobile applications, proper waste management, and farm record keeping optimizing their livelihood.

Hence, 36 participants received starter kits – ducks and vegetable seeds.

The said training can enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants to successfully implement the sustainable and productive farming approach, leading to increased productivity, environmental sustainability, income, and crop yield.

Moreover, Bernard S. Waclin, Municipal Mayor of Itogon, expressed his support to the program and encouraged the participants to appreciate the program being shared to improve their farming skills like backyard gardening and restore traditional farming.

Furthermore, Norma C. Mo-oy, rice farmer from Itogon shared her gratitude for the conduct of the training.

“Salasalamat iti amin nga speaker ta dakel nga yaman kami nga adda ti kastuy nga program yu. Adu t naadal mi ken imbag ta maisubsubli manen dyay maararamid idyay panagmula nga natay ket naisubli manen t aramid t panag garden ken composting (Thank you to all the speakers, we are grateful that they have conducted a program or training like natural farming. We have learned a lot to improve the agricultural industry in the locality and to integrate organic practices like composting),” Mo-oy shared.

Even though Itogon is known to be rich in gold, it is not the same as crops that grow but it is depleted. Once all were consumed, people will go back to farming, Mayor Waklin added during the closing program.//Ezra James  O.Felix, CDMSS Technical Support Staff, with  Ms. Emmalyn T.
