PIG FARMING AS AN ENTERPRISE FOR INSPIRE BENEFICIARIES OF CAR

ENHANCING COMPETITIVENESS

The Agricultural Training Institute-RTC-CAR recently organized a three-day training activity focused on Pig Farming as a potential enterprise for the beneficiaries of the INSPIRE program in region CAR. The training program commenced on a high note with the arrival of the enthusiastic participants from different provinces across the region. With participants hailing from Kalinga, Mt. Province, Baguio City and Ifugao, the event aimed to equip individuals and organizations with the necessary skills and knowledge to embark on pig farming as a sustainable livelihood opportunity.

Mr. Maximino R. Aromin Jr., the OIC Training Center Superintendent I, delivered the opening remarks to welcome the participants. He emphasized the importance of pig farming as a potential enterprise and encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity.

Mr. Edmund B. Benavidez, a private extension practitioner, was the speaker of the three-day training activity. He commenced his session on the personal entrepreneurial competencies. He engaged the participants with an insightful discussion and activity that allowed self-awareness and helped them identify areas for improvement. Participants embarked on a dart game also that effectively demonstrated their competitive spirit. By aiming for targets and competing against their peers, the participants not only honed their focus and precision but also learned valuable lessons about persistence and resilience. The dart game served as a metaphor for pig farming, where intricate decisions and strategies are crucial for success.

SKILL BUILDING

With the goal setting exercises, project idea generation exercises and macro screening activities during the second day, the participants are empowered to establish clear objectives and create a roadmap for their future endeavors in pig farming. They are encouraged to brainstorm innovative ideas to boost their pig farming enterprise. By nurturing a creative environment, the activity aimed to inspire novel approaches and promote out-of-the-box thinking among the participants and provides them with a comprehensive understanding of their industry, enabling them to identify both macro-level trends and micro-level challenges.

BUSINESS PLANNING

With another unique business game using origami, the participants acquired hands-on experience on marketing, production, negotiations, and management processes, while simulating the complexities of running a pig farming enterprise. This interactive exercise allowed them to apply their theoretical knowledge, develop problem-solving skills and enhance teamwork. While the collaborative strategies and competition was to promote a spirit of cooperation and healthy competition among the participants.

Before the training officially ends, Mr. Henry Gwyn Jonathan O. Salasa, veterinarian II led an informative session on the importance of meticulous record keeping. Participants were educated on the significance of maintaining accurate records for monitoring. Through this session, participants gained valuable insights into optimizing their day-to-day operations and ensuring long-term success. At the end of the day, the participants received their certificates.

Through this training activity the participants acquired valuable insights to establish and manage a successful pig farming enterprise. With newfound knowledge and skills, these beneficiaries are now equipped to tap into the vast potential of pig farming as a lucrative business opportunity in their provinces.
