ATI-RTC-CAR Equips Cordillera Farmers and LGUs with Soybean Production and Processing Training

The Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center – Cordillera Administrative Region (ATI-RTC-CAR) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office – CAR (DA-RFO-CAR) and the Cagayan Valley Research Center (CVRC), hosted the Training on Soybean Production and Utilization from October 14-17, 2024, at the CVRC in San Felipe, Ilagan City, Isabela. The training aims to empower farmers and agricultural technicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance production and processing in the region and thus boosting soybean production and processing in the Cordillera.

Engr. Rolando Pedro, CVRC manager, opened the event while encouraging participants to take full advantage of the learning sessions. In his message, Mr. Gerardo Banawa, Regional Corn Coordinator from DA-RFO-CAR, emphasized the strategic importance of soybean cultivation for the region’s economic growth. "This is just the beginning for us to address the marketing challenges of soybean. I encourage all participants to observe closely and apply the knowledge gained from this training to uplift your communities and improve your livelihoods," he said.

The training featured a blend of theoretical discussions and practical applications, designed to give participants a comprehensive understanding of soybean processing. Ms. Sheryl A. De Guzman and Mr. Marvin from DA-CVRC led hands-on sessions on Soybean Food Processing, showcasing various ways to utilize soybeans in food products. Participants were given the opportunity to work with soybean-based ingredients, learn food preparation techniques and explore value-added processing methods that could enhance marketability. Mr. Marc Julius Taracatac and Mr. Raffy Ortega presented the soybean industry and its soil and climate needs.

As the training concluded, participants expressed their enthusiasm for applying what they had learned in their respective communities, eager to contribute to the growth of the soybean industry in the Cordillera.
