In partnership with the Benguet State University’s Geo-Informatic Center, the ATI-RTC-CAR conducted the "Training on the Application and Functionalities of QGIS (Remote Sensing in Agriculture and Other Land Use and Cover) for AEWs" held on June 24-28, 2024 at ATI-RTC-CAR, BSU Compd., La Trinidad, Benguet.

The training aimed for the participants to be equipped with the concept, principles and applications of GIS, GPS, UAV to come up with realistic agricultural plans.

Experts from the Geo-Informatics Center, headed by Dr. Ross Lumbres and his team discussed and demonstrated all the steps for the participants to grasp the following topics: Remote sensing and downloading of satellite images from Google Earth and exploration of the Environment for Visualizing Images (ENVI) Software; Radiometric calibration focusing on preprocessing of Radiance Reflectance; Image Enhancement and Fundamentals of Image Interpretation which include creation of sampling points, creation and splitting of region of interest (ROI); Image Classification; Accuracy Assessment; and Unmanned  Aerial Vehicle (AUV) functionalities and its application in mapping.  Because the practicum/exercises were highly procedural in nature, the team was supported by 7 students who coached the participants during their entire practicum exercises.

During the closing ceremony, all of the participants who rendered their impressions thanked the Center for conducting the training and for the Resource persons and facilitators for the great explanation guided by the practicum of each topic. They said that the topics discussed were timely as these would help them in their fieldwork.

A total of 32 participants completed the said training with a total of 11 CPD points for Agriculturists and 8 CPD points for Agricultural Biosystems Engineers.
