Two Lads from Kalinga Emerge as Cordilleran Representative to the YFFLTPJ

Two lucky young agri-preneurs from Kalinga Province passed the Young Filipino Farmers Leadership Training Program for Japan (YFFLTPJ) batch 2024. Emerged from the 7 applicants who undertook the pre-qualifying exam last October 23, 2023 were Mr. Joseph Luminio, Jr. and Mr. Reymar Omeccas, both from Tabuk City, Kalinga.

As part of their preparation before being deployed to their host families in Japan, a Pre-Departure Orientation Course (PDOC) is being conducted from January 15 to February 17, 2024. At the regional level, they will be tasked to undertake various agricultural-related training such as smart agriculture, mechanization, agri-processing, agripreneurship and specialized training on dairy and beef cattle production, rice production and farm mechanization, swine production and management, vegetable production and fruit production. They will also undergo Mental Health Coping Mechanism and Financial Literacy training and Nihongo Class to be facilitated by ATI-CO.

Ms. Veronica B. Siloy, RBO and 4H Focal said that their schedules are the following:

  • January 15, 2024: Amando’s Farm, specializes on Lemon Production and Processing, Packaging and Marketing;
  • January 16-18, 2024: Lily of the Valley Organic Farm, specializes on Vegetable Production, Packaging and Marketing;
  • January 19-20, 2024: Say Mayat Farm, specializes in Vegetable Seedling Production, Packaging and Marketing;
  • January 22-26, 2024: Bacayan’s Integrated Farm, specializes on Farm Mechanization with special hands-on on rice, vegetable and fruit production;
  • January 29-February 2, 2024: Shavcers Farm, specializes on Fruit Production;
  • February 5-8, 2024: SMART Agriculture c/o Bureau of Plant Industry;
  • February 9-10; 12-13, 2024: e-Learning Session

The Young Filipino Farmers Leadership Training Program for Japan (YFFLTPJ) is a partnership between the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), and the Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC) which aims to develop deserving young Filipino farmers to become farmer leaders and to become empowered agricultural entrepreneurs.

A total of 23 young farmers nationwide were selected and have undergone the municipal, provincial and national selection committee deliberations. Their expected flight bound for Japan will be this coming April 2024.
