To continuously update and capacitate urban dwellers to increase food production,  ATI-RTC-CAR conducted Training on Organic Vegetable Production with the Provision of Starter Kits for urban dwellers of Pacdal, Baguio City held on July 6, 2023.

A total of 25 farmer participants attended the said activity. The participants were taught on the preparation of organic concoctions such as the FFJ, FPJ, LABS, IMO, OHN and other organic fertilizer applications to be used for their organic vegetable production.

The training is in consonant with Administrative Order No. 03, series of 2022 concerning the implementation of the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) to increase food production and lessen the logistics costs in order to soften the impact of global concerns like food security, climate change and the rising costs of fuel and other inputs. It aims to promote urban and peri-urban agriculture and other emerging agriculture practices through the Plant, Plant, Plant Program.

During the closing activity, Mr. Julito Malong shared his thoughts regarding the training. He realizes that in transplanting vegetables, one should observe the right seedlings stage that is ready for transplanting this way, you can be sure that the plants will grow. He acknowledged that one of his faults was to transfer the plants even the true leaves did not appear unknowing that the plant will not survive. “We should not make the soil compact in the container, we should change the soil for the next planting,” he continued.

The activity was the 16th and 17th batches of the “Capability Building in Support to Community Garden Establishment on Urban Agriculture supportive of the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), spearheaded by the Partnership and Accreditation Section.
