A training session on OA Level Up: Capability Development Batch 2 was successfully conducted in San Juan, La Union on February 24-27, 2025 through hybrid approach (face-to-face and online). A total of 38 participants from the Local Government Units (LGUs) - Sangguniang Bayan Members (SBs), and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) attended the training.
The training aims to enhance the adoption of organic agriculture (OA) practices in the region, by fostering stronger collaboration between AEWs and the SBs in every LGU to create a more sustainable organic agriculture landscape at the local level.
Mr. Edwin C. Dicksen, the OA Focal Person of ATI-CAR, led key sessions, covering the Republic Act 11511, Organic Certification and Accreditation through the Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS), the updated Philippine National Standards (PNS), and various OA technologies. These discussions provided participants with an in-depth understanding of the regulations and advancements in organic agriculture. Through interactive sessions, participants were equipped with the necessary tools, knowledge and skills to support local farmers in adopting OA practices, developing farm enterprises, and working towards PGS certification and accreditation.
Further, Ms. Alexandrea D. Suñga, DMO III of the National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP), delivered an insightful presentation on NOAP’s role in food security and its 12-point strategies. She emphasized various programs and interventions designed to support organic agriculture practitioners and organizations, intending to strengthen their communities and promoting livelihood development in the sector.
Hon. Glenn D. Bacala, SB Member of Bontoc, Mt. Province, expressed his appreciation for the discussions. He acknowledged their relevance in shaping local ordinances that support organic agriculture in his community.
