The Agricultural Training Institute - Cordillera Administrative Region (ATI-CAR), in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Asipulo and Aguilina Saguilots Farm, successfully concluded the “Seminar on Urban Agriculture: Focuses on Food Product Processing Through Fermentation and Pickling” along the value chain. The event was held at the Aquilina Saguilots Farm, Halog, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao on March 26, 2024.

The activity aimed to equip local farmers with essential skills in food product processing through fermentation and pickling.

Ms. Josefa Dulinayan, an esteemed instructor from Ifugao State University, and Ms. Linda Tagtagon served as the resource speakers, shared their expertise and knowledge in traditional fermentation and pickling techniques. Through engaging presentations and practical demonstrations, participants learned the art of preserving agricultural produce while enhancing their flavors.

The seminar garnered enthusiastic participation from various agricultural stakeholders, including members of the Asipulo Farmers Association, Bunoys Integrated Farm, Macario Arqueza Farm, and Aquilina Saguilots Farm. Attendees were eager to learn new methods to add value to their harvests and increase marketability.

One of the highlights of the seminar was the hands-on production of several value-added products. Participants successfully crafted tangy kimchi, flavorful sayote, cucumber pickles, and aromatic tomato wine. These artisanal creations not only showcase the diversity of locally sourced ingredients but will offer consumers unique and nutritious options.

The partnership between ATI-CAR, LGU Asipulo, and Aguilina Saguilots Farm underscores a shared commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and rural development in the region. By providing farmers with practical skills and knowledge, such initiatives contribute to the empowerment of local communities and the promotion of food security.

As the demand for locally sourced and value-added products continues to grow, seminars like these play a crucial role in equipping farmers with the necessary tools to thrive in a competitive market. Moving forward, stakeholders are encouraged to continue collaborating and supporting initiatives that promote innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
