Empowering Farmers of Kabugao, Apayao Through the Rice-based Farming Systems

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center in the Cordillera Administrative Region in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Kabugao, Apayao conducted a training on integrated farming systems for 30 selected rice farmers from September 3-5, 2024. These farmers are members of the Clustered Association in the province.

The training aims to enable the participants to adapt and integrate rice-based farming systems to maximize productivity and profitability.

During the opening program, the Municipal Administrator, Mr. Jed Bosing expressed his support to encouraging the farmers to embrace the training to enhance their farming skills. He highlighted that the program is essential for addressing key agricultural challenges such as high cost of agricultural inputs, limited post-harvest facilities and the impact of climate change.

Resource persons from the office of Municipal and Provincial Agriculture delivered various topics, including the PalayCheck system, integrated farming system principles, pest management, duck production, organic fertilizers, and vegetable production. As a result, the participants received starter kits – ducks and vegetable seeds to help kickstart their integration of these practices.

During the closing ceremony, Mr. Rodriguez P. Era thanked all the concerned institutions for the collaborative effort and partnership in conducting the training in their barangay. β€œAlthough we have been farmers for a long time and thought we knew everything about rice farming, this training has provided us with valuable new insights,” he concluded.

The training venue was at barangay Luttuacan, Kabugao, Apayao.
