Farming Goes Digital: Saint Bernard Farmers Get Tech Boost

ST. BERNARD, Southern Leyte - The PLDT and SMART Communications Inc. in partnership with the ATI-RTC 8 and the Saint Bernard Municipal Agriculture Office, awarded the DFP Farm Tech Package to the Tambis St. Bernard Farmers Irrigators Association on November 26, 2024.

The Tambis St. Bernard Farmers Irrigators Association (TSBFIA) was trained by ATI-RTC 8 last August 9-11, 2024 of the Digital Farmers Program 101 and 102 as well as the Municipal Agriculture office of St. Bernard last August 14-15, 2024. 

Association President Mr. Danny Quevedo Balasico, with officers, and selected graduates of the DFP training received the Farm Tech package and represented the association in the MOA signing.

Also present were Smart Communication Team led by Stakeholder Management Visayas Relations Head Ms. Marylou B. Gacotano, ATI-RTC 8 Agriculturist I Mr. Benjamin Lagaday, Municipal Agriculturist Ms. Erma Kapilitan, DFP Trainer Ms. Berlin Espinido, and LGU Saint Bernard SB Agriculture Committee Hon. Raydon Balasico.

The DFP Farm Tech is a portable training and livelihood resource that provides farming communities with access to technology and content on digital agriculture. It is a package that utilizes mobile technology coupled with the DFP ladderized training modules to enable the association to roll out the DFP in their respective areas and provide them with appropriate resources to venture into digital marketing through social media and e-commerce.

The ATI-RTC 8 and Smart Communications actively collaborate in implementing the Digital Farmers Program which capacitates a pool of resource personnel, providing technical expertise and facilitating technology delivery, for forthcoming activities aimed at assisting farmers in the Eastern Visayas region.
