BAYBAY CITY, Leyte - The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW supports the Philippine government’s goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution. By virtue of Republic Act 10398 or the Act declaring November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, government agencies are mandated to raise awareness on the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls. ATI-RTC 8, being an advocate for women and children’s rights, joins this year’s observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW. To raise awareness about this cause, ATI 8 staff used the #OrangeYourProfile frame in their respective social media accounts for 18 days captioning their opinion about the campaign and how they could contribute to the cause in their workplaces, at home, and anywhere else.
Since social media is a huge avenue to spread awareness, ATI in Eastern Visayas’ Facebook page also posted links and brochures about the different laws that led to the fruition of the Anti-VAW campaign. It also shared 6-ways to end VAW.
Staff were also given advocacy shirts and tote bags. Partner agencies were also provided with advocacy items.
An online contest for the staff was also conducted. In the contest, staff were urged to post a photo of them showing how they support the fight against VAW. Photos were judged by ATI-RTC 8 GAD point persons, and the Head of the Administrative Unit. The winners of the photo contest received campaign caps.
The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW started on November 25 and culminated on December 12, 2022.
