Catarman Farmers Set for SATs

CATARMAN, Northern Samar - ATI-RTC 8 continues to promote digital literacy and smart agriculture among local farmers with the successful completion of the first phase of the Smart Agriculture Technologies program. The training was conducted on August 30 to September 1, 2023, in Catarman, Northern Samar.

Twenty (20) farmers from two different organizations in Barangay Macagtas actively participated during the activity. The program's primary objective is to equip these farmers with essential digital skills and introduce them to the world of smart agriculture.

The initial phase of the program concentrated on key topics within the modules of the Digital Farmers Program 101 and 102, with a strong emphasis on smartphone functionalities and the utilization of various basic and advanced agricultural applications. These included Accuweather, GPS Field Measure, and the Binhing Palay app. Through this phase, participating farmers gained familiarity with the features of their smartphones and learned to harness the power of cutting-edge agricultural apps. They too, also learned about the different e-commerce platforms and how to market their products online.

“We are thankful for the knowledge we gained through this training.” said Rosemarie Sarmiento, a participant. “I would like to thank the support of the Municipal Agriculture office with the help of their technicians. I am so grateful for the things I have learned.”

The success of the Smart Agriculture Technologies program can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of ATI-RTC 8 and the unwavering support of the Local Government Unit of Catarman (LGU-Catarman). The invaluable assistance provided by LGU-Catarman staff, particularly Ms. Analiza Carias and Ms. Violeta Baxal, played an important role in ensuring the program's execution.

Smart Agriculture Technologies Phase I marks a significant step toward advancing the agricultural landscape in Northern Samar. With the digital literacy and smart agriculture tools at their disposal, local farmers are ready to enhance productivity and secure a sustainable future for agriculture in the region. As ATI-RTC 8 continues its mission to empower farmers, the hope of a more technologically proficient and prosperous farming community comes one step closer to reality.

The Phase 2 of the Training on Smart Agriculture Technology for the farmers in Macagtas, Catarman, Northern Samar is set on September 2023.
