TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte - After the intensive six (6) batches of the Training of Trainers on Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seeds and Farm Mechanization conducted in Alde Farm in Babatngon, Leyte, TOT  graduates are now ready to take on the challenge of implementing various Farmers Field Schools (FFS) in their respective municipalities.

With the country’s strong promotion of the production of High-Quality inbred rice and seeds, it was deemed important to capacitate Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from non-RCEF municipalities in the region to take part in Eastern Visayas’ productivity goals. Parts of Northern and Eastern Samar are still known to adapt traditional methods of farming- a practice that leads to lesser yields compared to modern methods of rice farming which involves mechanization.

This year, ATI-RTC 8 conducted 6 batches of Training of Trainers from February to May 2023. The TOT aimed to capacitate participants to become effective trainers, facilitators, and resource persons in the implementation of Modified FFS on Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice, Seeds, and Farm Mechanization. With a total of 181 graduates, 60 batches of FFS will be conducted in the provinces of Northern and Eastern Samar.

With this, ATI-RTC 8 conducted a 1-day orientation for the conduct of the FFS gathering 60 representatives from participating municipalities in the 2 provinces. The activity, conducted in Tacloban City on May 31, 2023, aimed to orient the FFS facilitators and trainers on their roles and responsibilities, schedule of the conduct of activities and other outputs, reports to be accomplished and the procurement procedures and documents needed in the conduct of activities.

During the orientation, it was agreed that lead facilitators will prepare the signed FFS proposal approved by their respective Municipal or Provincial Agriculturists. The names of lead facilitators shall also be sent through official communication. For LGUs who will be conducting FFS before June 20, 2023, supplies shall be delivered in time for their activities. It was emphasized that no downloading of funds will be conducted in the LGU level.

Present during the activity were ATI-RTC 8’s CDMS Chief Ms. Concepcion Miro, Rice Point Person Ms. Maria Helen Seco, and  Asst. Center Director Mr. Dalmacio Pajanustan.
