ORMOC CITY, Leyte - The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 8 in collaboration with the Ormoc City Agriculture Office conducted a Farmers’ Field School (FFS) participated by the Ormoc City Corn Cluster Farmers Association, facilitated by Ms. Mae Rose Panta and Ms. Estrella Lanuza from the Ormoc City Agriculture Office.

Throughout the training, farmers engaged in lectures, field activities, and group workshops, covering a wide range of topics such as corn morphology, management practices, agroecosystem analysis, and pest control. Participants also explored modern approaches, including digital agriculture and marketing strategies.

The farmers established a 1,000-square-meter corn field for their Participatory Technology Demonstration (PTD) where they conducted on-farm trials to reinforce their learning. The field served as a hands-on learning environment, allowing participants to apply and test recommended technologies.

One of the graduates, Mr. Diosdado Caliwan, expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am grateful to ATI and our facilitators for imparting knowledge and skills on corn production and management. We will use what we learned to improve the productivity and profitability of our corn production."

Through the FFS,  the farmers were equipped with the knowledge and practical skills needed to enhance their productivity, improve crop quality, and increase the profitability of corn production, contributing to the sustainable development of the corn industry in the region.

A total of 33 farmers completed the Farmers Field School (FFS) on Corn Production and Management. The 18-week training started on April 30, 2024, and concluded on September 27, 2024 in Ormoc City, Leyte.
