RiceCycle: Students Transform Rice Waste into Art

BAYBAY CITY, Leyte - The Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 8 (ATI RTC 8) concluded the National Rice Awareness Month celebration with RiceCycle: Upcycling Rice Wastes into Arts—a unique art contest that transformed rice by-products into extraordinary creations. The event took place on November 30, 2024, at ATI-RTC 8, VSU, Visca, Baybay City, Leyte.

Seven (7) talented groups, each comprising three members, showcased their creativity by turning rice waste materials such as husks and stalks into stunning artworks. The competition not only highlighted the participants' innovative skills but also emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture. After a rigorous judging process, the winners were:

  • 1st Place: Handuraw Visual Arts
  • 2nd Place: Texture and Grain
  • 3rd Place: Pangasugan Hiking Society

Ms. Danisse Nicole Iguiron, a member of the first-place team, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate. "We were initially intimidated by the other college student groups, but we persevered and gave our best. It was a fun and meaningful experience, and we appreciate the initiative to promote rice responsibility," she shared.

Mr. Denn Andrei Ibanez, a participant from Texture & Grain, echoed these sentiments. "We embraced the challenge of using rice waste materials and were amazed at the creative possibilities. This competition not only showcased our skills but also taught us the value of resourcefulness and environmental consciousness," he said.

The RiceCycle competition showed the power of creativity and the critical role of sustainable practices in agriculture. By upcycling rice waste materials, the participants demonstrated that even the simplest resources could be transformed into extraordinary works of art.
