QUEZON CITY – In an era characterized by rapid global change, the agribusiness sector is positioned as a pivotal driver of innovation and sustainability. The potential for growth, profitability, and positive environmental impact has reached unprecedented levels. This presents a compelling opportunity for investors seeking portfolio diversification and entrepreneurs aiming to introduce disruptive solutions into the agricultural landscape.
The adoption of advanced technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative methodologies is essential for the agribusiness sector to lead in the development of a food-secure and environmentally responsible world. The future of agribusiness is promising, necessitating proactive engagement from stakeholders to contribute to these critical solutions.
As a culminating activity within the Young Filipino Farm Leaders Training Program in Japan (YFFLTPJ) Batch 2024, interns participated in a comprehensive agribusiness project pitching session. This program is designed to equip promising young Filipino farmers with modern agricultural techniques and knowledge, empowering them to become influential agricultural leaders and entrepreneurs capable of enhancing food security and economic stability within the agriculture sector.
During the post-training evaluation and re-entry planning phase, all 23 interns developed and presented project proposals, articulating the application of innovative concepts acquired during their 11-month internship in Japan.
These proposals were then evaluated during the agribusiness pitching by a distinguished panel from the Department of Agriculture, including representatives from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council, the Philippine Rural Development Project, and the Special Projects Coordination and Management Assistance Division. The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) awarded ₱150,000.00 to the three outstanding projects that were evaluated based on the project's sustainability, profitability, feasibility, and innovativeness. Meanwhile, all the interns received ₱50,000.00 to start their respective projects.
This initiative aims to support the development of young agripreneurs and increase youth participation in the agricultural sector. Each project presented reflected the interns' unique visions for sustainable agriculture, innovative practices, and community development.
ATI Deputy Director Antonieta Arceo welcomed the panel of judges and presenters, emphasizing the activity's role as a valuable learning opportunity and a catalyst for transformative agricultural projects. She underscored the importance of embracing innovation and sustainability to create a resilient and environmentally conscious food system. By supporting programs like the YFFLTPJ, the ATI aims to empower the next generation of agricultural leaders to drive positive change.
The agribusiness pitching activity took place last March 26 to 27, 2025, at the PAD Conference Room, ATI Central Office.
