BAGUIO CITY—This year, the League of the Municipal Agricultural Officers, Municipal and City Agriculturists of the Philippines (LeMMCAP) marked a significant milestone by organizing its 20th National Convention and Seminar Workshop for agricultural extension managers and workers after a three-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The convention's main objective is to increase awareness on the programs and services offered by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and the Department of Agriculture among agricultural extension workers (AEWs) in the Philippines. It bore the theme "Looking ahead, the Pandemic offers an Opportunity to Enhance the Resilience, Sustainability, and Productivity of the Agriculture and Food Sector".

ATI Director Remelyn Recoter acknowledged LeMMCAP’s unwavering dedication to empowering agriculture stakeholders, highlighting the Institute’s commitment to capacitate the extension managers and extension workers in the country.

“Your tireless efforts in bridging the gap between tradition and modernity, between rural and urban, have sowed the seeds of sustainable development that continue to yield bountiful harvests for generations to come. Indeed, the Agricultural Training Institute is honored and grateful to have LeMMCAP as its long-time partner in implementing mechanisms for the growth of the sector, potentially contributing to the attainment of the vision of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. towards Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya,” she added.

During the event, the ATI informed agri-fishery stakeholders about its programs and services through the sponsorship of sessions and the installation of an exhibition booth. Information, education, and communication materials related to agriculture and fisheries, and advisory services on farming practices were provided during the event to strengthen understanding on key agricultural initiatives.

LeMMCAP is one the professional organizations that serve as extension allies and work closely with local communities for a more inclusive and targeted rural development approach, empowering the farmers and fishers, rural women, and youth to spur development.

This convention was hosted at the Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza in Baguio City from September 13 to 15, 2023.
