DILIMAN, Quezon City - A new course will be available for e-Learners this year as the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) team up for the hybrid course on Rice: Research to Production (RR2P).

This will be available on the eExtension portal, particularly, for learners with basic knowledge on rice production.

The course aims to equip learners with the fundamentals of rice production as well as help them understand the difficulties and changes in the industry, from production to marketing and sales.

Likewise, to advance their knowledge on rice production, the course will introduce the concepts and practices of rice breeding, crop diversification, gender and development of rice research, the rice value chain, and digital tools.

Ways and mechanisms on setting up productive partnerships with the country's research community are also covered in the course.

A face-to-face training will also be conducted for selected learners to further develop their knowledge, abilities, and perspectives on the latest rice production technologies.

In turn, participants who will complete the online course and the in-person training will be tapped as resource persons during the RR2P roll-out in 2025.

This partnership between the ATI and IRRI was sealed with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), signed by ATI Director Remelyn Recoter and IRRI Interim Director General Ajay Kohli.

The Ceremonial Signing was held during the Institute's 37th anniversary celebration last February 2 at the ATI-Rural Development Education Center in Quezon City.

Other IRRI representatives present during the event were Madonna Casimero, Department of Agriculture-IRRI SERVE Project Leader and IRRI Senior Scientist; Anilyn Maningas, IRRI Education Manager; Aaron Paul Landicho, IRRI Education Junior Facilitator, and Chief of Staff AJ Poncin.
