MAKATI CITY, Metro Manila — In collaboration with Nestlé Philippines, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) launched two key initiatives today (October 18, 2024), aimed at accelerating the adoption of regenerative agriculture among smallholder Robusta coffee farmers.

At the media launch organized by Nestlé Philippines, Engr. Remelyn R. Recoter, Director IV of the ATI, presented how the collaboration leverages the Institute’s e-Learning for Agriculture and Fisheries platform to effectively promote and disseminate information on these sustainable farming methods.

The first initiative is the development of a self-paced online course titled “Regenerative Agriculture para sa Climate-Resilient na Sistema ng Pagkakape”. This 2-module course delves into the impacts of climate change on coffee farming, and presents regenerative agriculture strategies to mitigate these effects. The course is offered to the public for FREE and is now available on the e-Learning platform at www.elearn.e-extension.gov.ph.

The second initiative is the release of the 2025 Coffee Crop Calendar, a record-keeping tool designed to help farmers effectively track their expenses and income throughout the coffee farming cycle. The calendar emphasizes the integration of regenerative agriculture practices in coffee production, making it a valuable resource for sustainable farming.

This collaboration marks a crucial step in empowering our coffee farmers while also engaging a younger, tech-savvy generation of farmers who prefer online platforms for learning. By offering readily-available, modern, and sustainable farming methods that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, this initiative makes it easier to adopt regenerative practices in coffee production.###
