Twenty three interns of the Young Filipino Farm Leaders Training Program in Japan (YFFLTPJ) Batch 2025 successfully completed a five-day smart farming training from March 10 to 14, 2025, at Gourmet Farms, Inc., Silang, Cavite.
The event introduced participants to cutting-edge farming methods, modern agricultural practices, and successful smart agriculture marketing strategies as part of their Pre-Departure Orientation Course (PDOC).
Mr. Michael Caballes, owner of Bukid Amara in Lucban, Quezon, presented a lectured on the value of smart farming and provided insights on numerous aspects of farming, including good site selection and effective greenhouse maintenance. Caballes also provided constructive inputs after the interns presented their proposed smart farm layout.
The interns were also taught of the basics of drip irrigation and disease and pest control by Bukid Amara Senior Agriculturist Lady Lee V. Alcala. During the session, the participants had hands-on experience inspecting actual plant pests and diseases , and proper diagnosis and treatment procedures.
The PDOC will run until April 11, 2025 and will also cover trainings on smart farming, financial literacy, mental health, and sessions on Nihongo language and literacy.
