Presidential Proclamation No. 33, series of 1989, declares the month of May as the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month.

DILIMAN, Quezon City—The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) joins the nation in honoring the immense socioeconomic contributions of the agriculture and fishery workforce and making powerful strides toward modernization and industrialization.

Several activities are lined up for this year’s Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month celebration with the theme, “Modernisasyon at Industriyalisasyon tungo sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita."

With last year’s celebration focusing on the role of farmers and fishers at the front seat of food security and sustainability, especially amid the emergence of COVID-19, the Department of Agriculture (DA) is now looking at further solidifying the road to modernization and agro-industrialization.

DA will spearhead the opening program for this celebration on May 16. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting, simultaneous photo exhibits, and showcase of fresh produce through the KADIWA food market will be witnessed as part of the program.

Among other activities to be held as part of the event are the promotion of edible landscaping to be led by ATI, as well as the virtual awarding ceremony for selected farmers, fishers, and farm families with outstanding contributions.

Senator Cynthia Villar, Congressman Wilfrido Mark Enverga, and Food Security Ambassador and Binibining Pilipinas candidate Faith Garcia are expected to attend the program.

Through Presidential Proclamation No. 33, series of 1989, the month of May is declared as the National Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month, paying tribute to all the efforts of the farmers and fishers in nation-building.
