LUCBAN, Quezon -- The Bukid Amara Farm, an accredited Learning Site for Agriculture of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), recently trained the young interns on Smart Farming Technologies in preparation for the Filipino Young Farmers Internship Program in Taiwan (FYFIPT).
The training was part of the program’s Pre-Departure Orientation Course for the youth interns, which comprised 50 young farmer leaders from different regions before their 11-month intensive on-farm training in Taiwan. Through the program, they are expected to learn modern agriculture technologies and approaches practiced in the country, which would later serve as their foundation to develop the necessary skills, discipline, and values needed to become agricultural entrepreneurs.
Bukid Amara Farm’s owner Michael S. Caballes welcomed the group and emphasized in his message the importance of advanced technology in the agriculture sector. ATI’s Senior Agriculturist Nemielynn P. Pangilinan urged the interns to focus on the subject matter emphasizing that most of the knowledge gained would be applied in Taiwan.
During the five-day training, Caballes stressed that a science-based farming approach played a big role in Smart Farming. He added that through Bukid Amara Farm, they helped “modernize agriculture by infusing modern farming technique and precision agriculture.”
The interns experienced hands-on activities on the installation of a drip irrigation system, nursery preparation, and greenhouse operation, considering the investment costs incurred.
The training was held from June 16 to 21, 2024 in Quezon Province.
