Naval and Maasin City Rice Farmers receive Nutrient Management Recommendations

Naval, Biliran and Maasin City, Southern Leyte saw significant participation from rice farmers during the recent Rice Crop Manager Advisory Services (RCMAS) briefings and deployments held in the respective areas.

In Naval, Biliran, a total of 95 rice farmers attended the second leg of the RCMAS Briefing and Deployment, which aimed to provide them with essential nutrient management recommendations. The objective was to guide farmers in using the right type, amount, and timing of fertilizer application, thus minimizing wastage of farm inputs, and maximizing the utilization of existing nutrients on their farms.

The event received valuable support from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Naval, Biliran, led by OIC-Municipal Agriculturist Mr. Laurence Mangco and his dedicated staff with assistance from Mr. Redentor Peñaflor of DA-RFO 8. Together, they generated a total of 152 recommendations, ensuring that the attending farmers received tailored guidance for their specific farming needs.

Meanwhile, in Maasin City, Southern Leyte, 80 farmers from various barangays were oriented and interviewed about the RCMAS on June 15, 2023.

Engr. Julius Monghe, the Supervising Agriculturist of CAO-Maasin City, warmly welcomed the farmers and encouraged them to embrace the fertilization recommendations that would be provided during the interviews. He emphasized that these recommendations had the potential to increase their yield and ultimately enhance their income.

Assisting the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 8 (ATI-RTC 8) were trained Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from LGU-Maasin, namely Ms. Marlyn Entuna and Ms. Glenda Asis. Their expertise and dedication contributed to the successful generation of 105 RCMAS recommendations, ensuring that farmers received practical and actionable guidance tailored to their farming requirements.

The RCMAS briefings and deployments in Naval, Biliran and Maasin City, Southern Leyte provided valuable knowledge and recommendations to rice farmers, empowering them to make informed decisions and optimize their crop production. These efforts are vital steps toward sustainable and efficient agriculture in the region.
