Aiming productivity with improved farm machinery

One of the salient points of RA 10601 is to promote the development and adoption of modern, appropriate and cost-effective and environmentally-safe agricultural and fisheries machinery and equipment. This is to enhance farm productivity and efficiency in order to achieve food security and increase farmers’ income.

Rule 47.5 of the aforementioned Act categorically gives importance to farmer organization and other small group holders who are fully accredited by the Department of Agriculture as one of the stakeholders eligible for mobilizing resources which can be used by the beneficiaries in enhancing their farm and finally optimizing productivity.

Under the Mandanas-Garcia ruling, Agricultural Training Institute’s capacity building initiatives shall focus with AEWs and in this particular training on farm machinery operations, maintenance, and maximized usage so they can perform mentoring activities to farmers with farm machineries and fast track farm operations as a means of optimizing productivity for food security in the country side.

Mr. Layne Lamberto Orane is thankful for the opportunity and expressed his experience in the field, “As an extension worker, this training is very informative and important. Through this training, we are now able to share and guide our farmer associations in operating and maintenance skills on their machineries and equipment, because it is a common problem in LGUs wherein machines are being provided, but no personnel were trained to operate the equipment”.

Noting that Can-avid is a non-RCEP area, Rogello Robedizo Jr. is equally thankful for the opportunity to be part of the training. “Thank you ATI for inviting us as one of the participants of this training even for a short time, this training will help us to assist our farmers in the locality to increase their production using modern technologies in farming especially since Can-avid was not part of the RCEP area. It is a challenge also for us to make it happen using the modern technologies you have introduced to us.”

Participants were also able to demonstrate the principles and process in farm machine operation and maintenance during the hands-on activities.

A total of twenty participants completed the Training on Farm Machine Operation and Maintenance on May 24-26, 2022 at Alde Integrated Farm, Babatngon, Leyte. (With reports from AECadalin and MLPalconit)
