Empowering AEWS thru ATI’s Extension Delivery System

Baybay City, Leyte – “Indeed, an added knowledge and the passion for learning will surely maximize our potential as extension workers as we are one of the important people to shape the minds of our farmers,” shares Ms. Raszell F. Lagarteja, an AEW from Arteche, Eastern Samar.

Agricultural extension Workers (AEWs) play an important role in informing, engaging, and moving farmers to action. ATI RTC 8 continues to deliver its commitment to capacitate AEWs so they can effectively provide farmer-level training in their respective municipalities.

Through the Training on Extension Delivery System (EDS) B1, AEWs were taken through the different phases of training management. The training aimed to equip the participants with the basic knowledge and skills in extension delivery. Former ATI RTC 8 Center Director Dr. Vilma M. Patindol taught participants on how to become effective trainers. Dr. Patindol walked them through different topics: basics and trends of agricultural extension; the key players in agricultural extension; different approaches, and strategies and methods of agricultural extension. Information Services Section staff also discussed Presentation and Facilitation Skills and Communication in Extension with the participants.

Ms. Emalyn O. Somono, another participant from General MacArthur, Eastern Samar, said, “All the topics are very vital and relevant to our functions as agricultural extension workers. I really appreciate all the activities incorporated in the training. It made the training enjoyable and fruitful. Through this training, I have realized that there is so much to be improved on our extension delivery.”

As an output to the training, each participant prepared and presented an agricultural extension plan.

The training was conducted on June 6-10, 2022 at ATI RTC 8 with 20 participants.
