Keeping the Lakbay-Alay spirit alive

Macrohon, S. Leyte – The ATI RTC 8 and the Organikong Magsasaka ng Rehiyon Otso (OMRO) is keeping the spirit of sharing and peer-to-peer learning of organic agriculture through the Lakbay –Alay. The activity aims for participants to take part in the agricultural rehabilitation of Eastern Visayas through organic agriculture.

For the first Lakbay-Alay of 2022, OMRO members trooped to RGB Integrated Farm in Macrohon, S. Leyte. The Lakbay-Alay offered farm mentoring and coaching to fellow-farmers specifically in organic farming. RAFC Chairperson and OMRO Vice President Mr. Miguel “Mike” Pedroso gave the overview for the activity. Mr. Pedroso also shared his jackfruit production knowledge with the participants.

Aside from the gift-giving wherein OMRO members give gifts from their own farms to the farms they visit, there was also a tree planting activity. Another milestone was the signing of the MOA for the partnership of OMRO and the PAFC Southern Leyte with the presence of Mr. Lorenzo Salapi Jr. (PAFC Chair Southern Leyte).

Ms. Mary Cris Ripalda, OMRO member, said, “It was unforgettable experience together with new meet friend member of the organization. It gave me an opportunity also to benchmark to other farm. I was very happy and thankful that i was be able to be part of the helping hands for the farmer in order for them start up again to push through farming after the destructive typhoon Odette they experienced. I was also able to notice how the local municipality and leaders of the organization actively participated and helpful for the farmer.”

Mr. Roberto Balondro Jr., owner of RGB Integrated Farm, was thankful as he shared, “ Kung kini na Lakbay Alay nga event wala pa nahu dawata, dako nahong pagbasol, tungod kay dako man natabang ang mga tawo nga nagdumala ani. Nakatabang sila dili lang nako kon dili sa mga farmers pud sa among municipality sa MAcrohon. Kalipay namong mga Farmer sa ilang gi-share nga mga Ideas ug mga Technologies kanamo. Salamat sa OMMRO, RAFC, PAFC ATI-RTC 8, OMAS LGU-Macrohon nga nagmalampuson ang Lakbay-Alay.”

Thirty (30) participants joined the Lakbay- Alay on May 18-19, 2022.
