RCEF ToT for continuous supply of high-quality inbred rice seeds

One of the ways to ensure a Masaganang Ani, Mataas na Kita is the use of high quality inbred rice seeds. The Dept. of Agriculture thru PhilRice has been promoting the use of high-quality inbred rice seeds because it results in high germination rate, lower seeding rate, more vigorous seedlings, and more efficient crop establishment.

However, for farmers to actually use inbred rice seeds, there must be a continuous and reliable supply of high-quality inbred rice seeds in the region. Hence, ATI RTC 8 is conducting the second batch of the Training of Trainers of Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seeds and Farm Mechanization on June 13-24, 2022 at Alde Farm in Babatngon, Leyte.

Conducted under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF), the training aims to develop the participants to become effective trainers, facilitators and resource persons in the conduct of Modified Farmer Field Schools.

Participants are capacitated regarding the morphology of rice and its growth stages; various rice farm machineries, ICT tools and services in rice production, fertilizer application, integrated pest management, and farm business planning and record keeping. In addition, prior to the face-to-face conduct of the training, participant underwent self-paced learning thru enrolment in pre-identified e-learning courses of ATI.

The thirty-three (33) participants to the training will also undergo a microteaching session to see if they will be able to pass on necessary knowledge and skills to farmers in the conduct of the modified farmers field school (FFS) in their respective farm schools.

It was on March 7-18, 2022 when ATI RTC 8 conducted the first batch of the training to 31 participants at JEFSPA in Kananga, Leyte (to be updated).
