Tacloban City, Leyte - For better program implementation, everyone must come together to think of strategies and methods to be employed. The Organic Agriculture program in Eastern Visayas is fortunate to be implemented by stakeholders who have long-term plans for the program.
On April 22, 2022, twenty-five (25) stakeholders of the OA program met for a Consultative Meeting in Tacloban City, Leyte. The activity aimed to consolidate national and local organic agriculture plans and distinguish the vital role of AEW as front liners in the implementation of the OA program in the region.
During the meeting, it was raised that there should be an Organic Agriculture Hub in the region so OA products can be promoted well. They also acknowledged the need for intensive promotion of OA products. In part this can be addressed thru promotional teasers to be developed by DA RFO 8, ATI RTC 8 and Mr. Ruy Valente Polistico come second half of the year.
The meeting also highlighted the lack of OA certified seeds in the region. The participants agreed on the need for a training or refresher course on seed banking to address this. With the initiatives that each stakeholder is willing to undertake, there is much promise for the OA program in the region.
Participants to the meeting was a mix of Provincial Focal Persons, 3rd party certified farmers, DA-RFO 8 OA Focal and Regulatory staff, and ATI RTC 8 OA Point Person.
