Baybay City, Leyte – “I would like to give thanks to our Almighty God for surviving this very intense two-week long training,” quipped Mr. Nicanor Tahup of Nick Joy Integrated Farm in Tomas Oppus, S. Leyte. He witnessed the intensity and complexity of the training activities.
This was an apt description for the Training of Trainers on the Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seeds and Farm Mechanization conducted by the ATI RTC 8 from October 3-14, 2022. With the aim to train a pool of trainers in the production of inbred rice, seeds, and farm mechanization, the participants were kept busy with different activities.
Participants were kept abreast with the importance of RA 11203 and RCEF; the procedure for the conduct of FFS, the 9 Key checks in rice production; the conduct of the Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA); morphology of rice and its growth stages; rice farm machinery and its advantages; ICT tools and services in rice production; and nutrient and fertilizer application. Aside from lectures and discussions, the participants had hands-on activities, especially in the operation of rice production machinery.
Ms. Clauden C. Elarcosa of R&R Agricultural Farm in Calbayog, Samar was thankful to have participated in the last batch of TOT for the year under RCEF. She shares, “ I am looking forward to helping the farmers and guiding them to realize our slogan “Masaganang ani, mataas na kita”.
Through this training, participants also realized their sense of mission in imparting their knowledge to the rice farmers in their respective communities to enhance their capabilities and improve their practices in rice production. They looked forward to becoming an FFS facilitator and resource persons after this training.
Thirty-one (31) participants joined the TOT which was conducted at ATI RTC 8, VSU, Baybay City, Leyte.
